Traipsing Around KL

Sorry I'm a little late getting this blog done.  I just went to bed last night, being so tired.

You can sort of tell KL isn't the most tourist-inspiring spot we've been to.  We concluded last night that 4 nights here maybe wasn't such a good idea.  It's a very cosmopolitan city, but isn't well-organized for tourism.  For example, here's the Jamek Mosque (largest in KL).

It sits at the confluence of the river in KL.

But we can't get into it.  There is a gate on the one side that's accessible, but there's someone there keeping people out.  We're not dressed appropriately, which I understand, but then perhaps they could offer up a cheap robe, or something, for those that might want to visit.

So we move on.  We went to the Central Market, which is a very nice indoor market.

We had split up for the day today, as I had started out with...well, having to take imodium this morning.  It cleared up fine.  Then who do we run into at the Central Market?  Dan & Joanne, of course.

They continued on to find lunch somewhere.  We wandered around the market, then decided to have lunch just outside at this place.  It consisted of these separate little buildings of about 3 tables each (there are more around the corner).  Kind of weird, but at the same time, nice.

Here we are inside.

That's about it for the day.  We walked along the river for a bit, but as I mentioned off the top, it's not a great tourist-type city.  They could do a lot to clean it up along the river and make it more pleasant.  We kept running into the smell of urine and the river itself didn't look very nice.

By the way, this is how we're getting around in KL.  They have a pretty good transit system, some underground, some on top, called LRT (light rail transit), and a monorail through part of it.  This one goes right by our hotel, so we can catch it there.  And they sort of all link up.

Last night, we went out for dinner to an Italian restaurant.  We needed some "comfort food".  It was close enough to walk to, so we did that.  After all, we're spending a couple of nights eating and drinking for nothing.

We are staying on "The Level" in our hotel.  So the deal is, we paid a bit more for our rooms ($120/nt vs say $100/nt), but then we have access to the lounge on "The Level", which is the top floor.  We can have breakfast there for nothing, and between 5 and 7 pm, happy hour, we can eat and drink for nothing.  So it's a good deal.

Yes, $120/nt at a pretty nice hotel.  Things like that are cheap here in Malaysia.  Same with eating and drinking while out and about.  It's all relatively cheap.

We'll see what we can find later today.
